Paint .vs. Fall 2010

The Scream by Edvard Munch

Typically, my fall wardrobe is a reflection of the colors provided by nature in New England around late October/mid-November. This year I created a fall2010 wardrobe that is inspired by paintings and paint appropriate to the season. The famous Scream painting always reminds me of Halloween because of its creepiness. The Landing of William Penn is an obvious connection to fall because of its representation of Thanksgiving. Both paintings use colors that exemplify Autumn at its fucking best.

While working in an Interior Design library I often get to work with a lot of Benjamin Moore paint colors. Sometimes I'll see a particular color and think of a pair of shoes or dress I own similar (Attention Deficit Disorder)...That lead to this...

"I was only trying to be nice"...

Uh huh, another black and white classic...
This ranks top 10 on my 25 favorite songs list. I think every girl can relate to the lyrics. Boys who confuse a smile for a green light?...Fail!! I honestly had this on repeat all weekend. As far as the video goes...Can we talk about Cherrelle playing a jive version of Ann Darrow .vs. a pop-locking King Kong? Yeah, this happened.

J'adore!

Omnia Vanitas

"All is Vanity" by C. Allen Gilbert

In everyday society...
The word"vanity" is most commonly understood as excessive pride in one's appearance, qualities, abilities, and achievements. It is also interpreted as lack of real value, hollowness, and worthlessness.

In medieval art....
"Vanitas vanitatum, omnia vanitas" is translated in the King James Bible as "Vanity of vanities, all is vanity." Vanitas (Latin meaning vanity/emptiness) is often defined as one of the seven deadly sins. Visual symbols attributed to this definition typically depict an image of a prideful woman gazing into a mirror which is held by some sort of representation of evil decay. Shit!

Check this out...

...Surface image is worthless if you lack valuable inner character...

PS: I'm not even going to explain what inspired me to share this quick post on vanity with you...lol. Let's just say that it was driven by an idea that was conceived while in an ironic state of mind.

New ink...

"There is no fear in love" - I John 4:18

Date: 21 August
Artist: Jay Sessions
Inspiration: I wanted a collarbone/chest tattoo for a while. I made an argeement with myself that if I ever was to get permenant words on my body they would have to be from the heart and soul. They would have to be words that I could live and die with. The only words that I can live and die with on my chest are from the bible. I pulled this quote from John because it captured me the most....Through love you are in fact fearless.

"18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love."

The Ink Doctor was here...

Remember a few months ago I posted about Dr. Lakra's work being featured at the ICA in Boston? Well, September 6th was the final day for the showing of his exhibit so I wanted to share this quick video with whom it may concern...

Check out some of Lakra's monstrously beautiful work:

Ps: As the annual Boston Tattoo Convention approaches you can expect more random ink posts from me ;)

Board Room for Lunch

When you leave a chair like this posted up on the outside of your store you automatically get my vote. I stopped by the brand new Board Room (affiliated with Laced Boston) shop located on Pearl Street, Downtown Boston. When I first entered the store the first thing that caught my eye was all of the DGK love that surrounded the space. Next, I noticed an adorable crew of kids that had an answer to any question that I had. The owner, Joamil Rodriguez, happened to be in the store and we got a chance to chat...such a cool down to earth dude!

...and then we played with ski-masks! lol

The store is still under construction but should be finished soon!

Smile with your eyes...

...says Tyra.
I've discovered my secret lash weapon.
Finally, a mascara that's a mascara! Lift, volumize, separate...that's all a girl asks for.

Rimmel's Lash Flirt retails for less than $10 and works better than any mascara that I've paid more for. The brush is flexible and designed to function like a real comb for your lashes. This allows you to create a more natural but sexmatic look. (Sexmatic= sexy + dramatic)

Buy it at any drug store...

Prints .vs. Solids

For those of you who can't stand to wear black and white prints on their own without obnoxiously adding a piece of color, we would've been bff's last Friday. No disrespect to Uncle Karl Lagerfeld, but when I wear black and white tops I feel the need to have some sort of random pop of color. Not only does it add an unexpected element of shine to your glow, but it also shows that you re not afraid to play with prints and colors. Keep your accessories simple when doing this...you've already got enough going on honey!

Cut his Pants!

Guys have the most comfortable clothes. That's why I still don't understand why some of them feel the need to squeeze themselves into tiny-ass skinny jeans. Anyways...This weekend I took a pair of scissors to my brothers Beta Unit's because he no longer wanted them and I couldn't let them go to waste...These are now my new favorite shorts! This is the real way to achieve the "boyfriend-fit".

Swallowed

I heart this video on so many levels. I got chills watching it again. Bush was one of my favorite bands. I loved how Gavin sang with so much inner feeling but his face was sometimes expressionless while doing so...Kinda creepy and mysterious. The fashion in this video brought back specific memories of my teen years. Funny how just hearing this song changed my mood instantly and actually inspired an idea.

Swallowed borrowed
Heavy about everything but my love
Swallowed hollowed
Sharp about everyone but yourself

My Karmaloop Pick of The Week

Brought to you by Hellz Bellz , The Afford Me Tank speaks for itself...literally. I chose this particular item because I'm a fan of an honest statement, especially printed on a tank as boldly as this one. Plus, I love how they incorporated the designer logos to really get the point across.

As Keri Hilson says "Get your money up!"...

Feeling good...

Shot and directed by Twin Peaks

While we're on the subject of black and white videos and polo, it's only appropriate that we check out my boy Jahpan's video for "Better Than Before" off of An Album Called Life. Finally a quality hit/music video without vixxens, champagne, and other commercial fabrications. Just feel-good hip hop, b-boys, and contagious energy. This is refreshing!

*Rep your city*

Yeah...This happened.

The fact that this Jasmine Guy video appeared on the blog today is perfect representation of my attention deficit disorder. Actually, I think that black and white videos are so sexy and classy, as is Jasmine. I guess that's my rhyme and reason for sharing this treasure with you. So, this one's for all of my boys (and girls) that had a crush on Whitley Gilbert (lol)!

Enjoy

TTK presented The Urban Equestrian Exhibit...

In this photo: Artist TTK (left) Me (Right)

Friday, August 6th...What a party to be at via 34 Cliff Street NY NY.

TTK did not disappoint a mixed crowd that included bloggers, fashion enthusiasts, hip hop heads , and Lo-life's. His artwork was displayed in a spacious, but cozy, loft style apartment that was suitably nestled in Manhattan. Beverages and appetizers were provided as TTK's impressive artwork was admired amongst a mingle-friendly audience. The DJ added to the ambiance by blessing the room with very theme appropriate hip hop.

Oh Sheila!

She wants to lead the Glamorous Life
She don't need a man's touch
She wants to lead the Glamorous Life
Without love, It ain't much

Sheila E. is the baddest drummer chick in history. Her hair, makeup, and wardrobe were always a win. She was Prince's homegirl so I'm pretty sure at some point they were probably sharing clothes. Aside from Ms. Glamorous Life being an active force in the 80's style revolution, her musical talent and stage performances were an adrenaline rush. She actually inspired me to ask my father for a drum set of my own, which he eventually surprised me with one xmas. I banged on it a few times and within a few weeks I was over it. Nevertheless, I still loved to watch her play and she was someone that I adored.

I want to wake up in that city...

...That never sleeps.

I hit 7th Ave. strutting at full speed this past weekend. Initially, I fled to the city with the same intentions as an adolescent runaway. Then, as my night went on, I realized that my hiatus turned into an actual mission.
