LV x Scott Campbell

Marc J. collabs with Scott Campbell, his tattoo artist, for an epic collab for the LV S11 Menswear show...and for the record, no I'm not thinking about getting this tattoo! But I do think it's hot!

His artist also freaked a few handbags in the latest collection.

Robot & Brucling

The Knight

Bowtie overhaulers. Lace, leather, silk, denim, studs, skulls, or spikes. Christopher (Robot) Bennette and Bruce (Brucling) Franklin get my vote for best (unisex) neck accessory designers.

Chris, 23, and Bruce, 22, both of Boston, are the force behind the growing label Robot & Brucling . The two have no formal tailoring experience but have been mentoring with local garment guru, Roger Hinds of Hinds Lines & Designs who is also a friend, mentor, and sometimes life coach of mine.

The Phantom

The Knight and Phantom are two of my favorites in their collection but check out the other goodies on their site. There's something magical about reinventing a classic accessory like the bowtie and making it fresh for a new generation of ladies and gentlemen.

I support local talent.

Nigeria circa 1973

Left: Aunt Vivian, Right: my mommy

This photo was taken in Nigeria ca. 1973.

You can look at some women and tell what kind of woman they were in the 70's. I look at my mom and want to go back and relive her teenage years. She is a pure hippie at heart and you can't take that from her. Despite being 1 of 7 well-dressed children, she broke apart and found her own individual style. At 17 she left Nigeria and came to the U.S to attend Michigan State. From there her fashion evolved while picking up American trends but still incorporating her roots. To this day I would describe her style as culture driven, sophisticated, and somewhat rebellious at times. Lucky for me we wear similar sizes and I'm all about sharing ;)

more cute shops...

Hall's on Broadway - Providence RI

Ok so during my weekend splurge adventure I spent some time socializing with 2 of Rhode Islands cutest vintage store owners, Mary Ellen of Hall's and Jen of Rockets to Mars. Both happen to own shops directly across the street from one another.

Rare antiques, jewelry, handbags, purses, shoes, dresses, tops, bottoms, from high-end designer to locals...I fell in love.

What's also cool about Hall's is this room (above) dedicated to art from local artist. The shop is located in an area enriched with aspiring and professional artists. The pieces featured in this space are diverse but all share a raw starving artist look to them, which I thought made the room that much more interesting.

Still on a high from being mesmerized by Hall's, I decided to take Mary Ellen's advice and walked into Rockets to Mars. I'm glad I did. Jen, the owner, was so down to earth that I felt like asking her a zillion questions but didn't because I was too busy staring at things like this encyclopedia (above) placed casually on top of a complimenting red chair. I started reading a few paragraphs to see what this shit was about but it started to creep me out a little so I placed it back on the chair and walked away!

Neck-Lace

I dedicated a little bit of my weekend splurge to finding cool new accessories. It was sort of like pulling my own teeth because I'm not a huge accessory wearer...I'm not always into the extra. BUT...This chain/pearl necklace accompanied by a lace flower had to come home with me. I'm sure my girl Gillian could make something like this.

Win.

Left: Michael Bivins , Right: Me

Went to the Celtics v Lakers Game 4 last night. Besides our victorious win (shoutouts to Big Baby who scored 18pts), seeing Michael Bivins of Bel Biv Devoe was pretty awesome. He was staying cool in all white (I think it was Gucci).

Also noteable...

Having this flyer handed over by a Karmaloop street rep that was passing them out in front of the Garden was icing on my cake. Sometimes I forget just how deep the Karmaloop fam is!

Oh and I'll be honest...I was trying to cut throat by cutting out his rep code from the picture. Sorry "Skoob", we all gotta eat!

Use my Rep code: Neek100 for exclusive Beat LA apparel ;)

Speaking of Evoker

It's funny how you don't notice something until someone makes mention of it, then you start to see it all the time. I went with my boy to Bamboo Tattoo on Saturday and saw this stop sign in his artists office. The Evoker sticker caught my eye first, then the graffiti. I felt like tagging up the sign but held myself back. I think I need to work on my graffiti skills first before I destroy other peoples property.

Anyways, check out some of the decks on their site. I think the Proletariat Urkel deck is the least expected but might actually be my favorite one. :)

I support local talent.

LV for iPad

...you knew this was coming. Only makes sense right? Take your pick, monochrome damier or signature monogram. I have a feeling that there will be a lot of cool iPad sleeves coming out soon. This particular one drops in 2011. I'd personally like to see some crazy Harajuku Lovers iPad sleeves. I bet they'd be adorable!

Pheromones

mmm...This John Varvatos cologne is a winner. It smells so sexy day or night. Light enough to wear no matter your PH but strong enough to leave an impression on sheets. Own it here .

Skatepreneur

Ok, Stevie might not be as pretty as TK but I respect DGK and the entrepreneur behind it so on the strength of that alone I admire him. Growing up in North Philly, Stevie Williams took the road less traveled by pursuing his passion for skateboarding. Local haters and kids in skateparks would call him and his friends the "Dirty Ghetto Kids". I guess thats why they say "thank your haters" because DGK wouldnt exist without them.

I have so much respect for African American men who arent afraid to step outside of a sport less popular to our race. I'm hoping that DGK never falls under the radar and it does something colossal for 2010 to float over competition.

Shop DGK on Karmaloop and use my code Neek100 for the discount.

Fish for cool kids.

More like fishscale...
I stopped by Karmaloop Boston on Friday and was introduced to Fish McGill, art genius. He was there working a collab with Evoker and music by DJ John Barera. There's no better collaboration than art, fashion, and music. I took 2 quick pics to share with you lovies.
