"All is Vanity" by C. Allen Gilbert
In everyday society...
The word"vanity" is most commonly understood as excessive pride in one's appearance, qualities, abilities, and achievements. It is also interpreted as lack of real value, hollowness, and worthlessness.
In medieval art....
"Vanitas vanitatum, omnia vanitas" is translated in the King James Bible as "Vanity of vanities, all is vanity." Vanitas (Latin meaning vanity/emptiness) is often defined as one of the seven deadly sins. Visual symbols attributed to this definition typically depict an image of a prideful woman gazing into a mirror which is held by some sort of representation of evil decay. Shit!

PS: I'm not even going to explain what inspired me to share this quick post on vanity with you...lol. Let's just say that it was driven by an idea that was conceived while in an ironic state of mind.
